Your interview, in the order it happens

Most people only study the civics questions. The officer tests five things, and Civics Go practices all of them.

  1. Hello and the oath

The officer greets you, makes small talk and asks you to promise to tell the truth. Practice answering out loud before the day.

  2. Questions about your N‑400

The officer goes through your application. Civics Go explains the hard words, like "habitual drunkard" or "claimed to be a U.S. citizen", and marks the questions where a "yes" needs care.

  3. The civics test

Every question on the 2025 test, and the 2008 test if you filed before October 20, 2025, asked in the different ways officers ask them.2025 test: 12 of 20 right to pass. 2008 test: 6 of 10.

  4. Reading

Read a sentence out loud and the app checks every word.Read 1 of 3 sentences correctly.

  5. Writing

The officer reads a sentence and you write it down.Write 1 of 3 sentences correctly.

Hear the story behind the questions

Every question, explanation and N-400 word is shown in English, because that is what you will say, and in the language you understand best. Each topic also has a short story in your language that ties its questions together, so the answers are easier to remember.

Do I need an account?

No. Open the app and start studying.

Where is my progress saved?

In the iPhone app, only on your iPhone: if you delete the app, your progress is deleted too. On the web, only in the browser you study in: clearing that browser's site data deletes it.

Some answers depend on where I live. How does the app know?

Questions like "Who is one of your state's U.S. senators?" have different answers in each state. Enter your ZIP code and the app looks up your officials from public sources such as house.gov and usa.gov. Only the ZIP code is sent.

The app doesn't hear my answer.

On an iPhone, check that Civics Go may use the microphone and speech recognition in the Settings app, under Civics Go. On the web, allow the microphone for this site; Chrome, Edge and Safari can hear you, and in Firefox you type your answer. You can always choose "Type instead".

I found a mistake.

Please tell us which question it is. We check answers against the official USCIS lists.
